Wednesday: Reading Star Test will be administered on September 23.  Mrs. Hull's homeroom is 9:50-10:20 and Mrs. Cummings's homeroom is 1:20-1:50.

Spelling test is Tuesday.  Only those students who did not receive a  100% on the pretest are required to take the spelling test.  A list of words went home with the students last Tuesday to study.  Spelling City is also up and running.  Log on to www.spellingcity.com/hull2ndgrade/ .  Our spelling list is on the website and students can play games and activities with our spelling words to practice.  Spelling City also has an app for your smart phones and tablets.

This week in Reading the students will be finishing up the unit on Author's Purpose and Collective Nouns. A collective noun is a word for a group of people, animals or things.   The Collective noun test will be given on Wednesday.  The students have collective noun flash cards that they should be studying.  These are the collective nouns that we are focusing on and also the ones that will be on the test.  This is also a fun website to with collective noun games to play: http://www.turtlediary.com/grade-3-games/ela-games/collective-nouns.html

During our Unit on Author's Purpose, the students have been focusing on why the author writes the text.  The students have been taught that authors write to either persuade, inform or entertain.  The students will be given the author's purpose test on Friday, September 5th.
