End of year countdown:
Monday: Popcorn
Tuesday: Quiet Day
Wednesday: Rainbow (Write with colored pencils)  Please bring in the colored pencils.  If you have extra to share then that would be great.
Thursday: Silly Socks Day
Friday: Bring a Toy to Share via show-n-tell

Behavior: We are in the final two weeks of school.  Please talk with your child about behavior expectations.  We are having an increase in disruptive behavior, name calling, inappropriate language and students not keeping their hands to themselves.  We have a lot of special events coming up and it will break my heart to take these events away from students, but we will.

Reading Homework: Cereal Box book report is due by Friday.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Other than that assignment, homework is wrapped up for Mrs. Hull's class for the year!!!  Anything that comes home completed was done and checked in class and can be kept home.  However, if a student is not able to complete a classwork assignment in class then I will ask that they finish it for homework.  This will be on an individual case basis and it will be your child's responsibility to communicate with you what needs to be completed.  I will not update the blog with this information because it will not apply to the whole class.

Math classroom practice packets:

  • Partitioning packet is due June 10
Health quiz: June 14
Science quiz: June 15
Math Unit 7 assessment: June 15

Field Day: Field Day is Friday, June 17th.  Let us know if you would like to come in to volunteer!  It is always such a fun day!  Only parents who are fingerprinted will be allowed to volunteer.

I just wanted to apologize and thank everyone for the patience while I got the sloppy copies back to the students.  Unfortunately, my son was sick and I had to stay home with him.  I was able to conference today with all the students who turned in their sloppy copies so far.  I discussed with them the changes that needed to be made and they all seemed to understand but please send me an email if you have any questions.  Below you will find some bulleted points that help outline some corrections that I made on many of the student's papers.

  • Ingredients section is not for actual ingredients.  Think of it like ingredients for a book.  It needs to include Character, Setting, Plot, Problem and Solution.
  • Please list the ingredients on the side of the box.
Characters:
Setting:
Plot:
Problem:
Solution:

  • Nutritional Information: Pick 3 characters and write a sentence about each explaining their importance in the book.  You can simply list these characters as well.
  • Review: This is the students opinion of the book.  Did you like the book? Why? Give examples from the book to support why you did or didn't like the book? Would you recommend this book to a friend?
Bring a snack tomorrow.  We are having lunch a bit later because the students are taking their star test.  I told the students that they can bring a small, neat, low maintenance snack to eat in the classroom before the test.

May 9th:
Miss Nelson Is Missing Play Field Trip:
This field trip is on May 24th.  Permission slips went home with the students last week and are due back this Wednesday.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

This Friday wear your Imagine Andrews polo!!

White House Field Trip:  This field trip is still in the works.  We worked very late Friday night and even into the wee hours of Saturday morning to submit the names and information for a second time.  We are still waiting to hear back about a date.  Once that is done then we will submit our field trip request into PGCPS.  As soon as we get a date we will let you know!

Cereal Box Book Report:  Our final book report went home with the students today.  I know it is A LOT of information in the packet and it can be confusing.  Please read through the packet with your student.  We went over it extensively today so they might be able to explain it themselves.  I also showed them an example.  Parents, if you are confused about anything or have any questions then please feel free to email me.  You may also come in 8:15 to 8:30 or after school 2:50-3:30 to come see the example yourself or ask any questions.

Thursday, May 5, 2016

We would like to clear up any confusion regarding field trips for the remainder of the school year.
We have a field trip planned for May 24th to see the play Miss Nelson is Missing at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park Maryland.  This field trip was submitted a month ago and has already been approved.  The permission slips have been passed out and are due with payment by May 11th.

The White House Field Trip:
We were approached by a parent to possibly take the students on a field trip to the White House.  This is not an opportunity that we could pass up so we quickly started to get what we needed to the White House to put in a request for a date.  This field trip is not planned yet.  In order to request a date, we had to submit everyone's information for a background check.  Once that is complete then we will be given a date.  We are in a race against time because PGCPS has to approve field trips before we can go.  If we do not get a date soon about the White House field trip then we will not have enough time for PG county to approve our date.  We keeping our fingers crossed that this field trip works out and we will let you know as soon as we have a date.

I hope this clears up any confusion.  Please let us know if you have any questions regarding field trips.

The 3rd quarter awards ceremony will be on April 18 from 9:20-10:00.  Please join us!

The Unit 5 math test will be on Friday, April 15.
Students need to review what the word "difference" means in math.  It is a clue to let them  know to do subtraction.  For example: If  Joe has 5 fewer beads than Sue, that means Sue has 5 more beads than Joe.  A possible question would be how many more beads does Joe need in order to have the same amount as Mary.  This is asking for the difference, it is a subtraction problem.

The math classroom practice packet "Welcome Spring" is due Friday, April 15.
Classroom practice: math solve the room "What Does the Clock Say?" is due Friday, April 29.

Reading Announcement!!!!!
The adverb and adjective test was supposed to be given last week.  I have had to push back the test so that more students would be prepared.  There are still several students struggling with identifying nouns and verbs.  Please review this concept at home.  If the students cannot correctly identify a word as a verb or noun then they will not be able to tell if it is an adjective or an adverb.
